Valefest 2014 (w/ Little Dynamite)

On a drizzly Saturday, some friends and I donned wellies/disposable shoes and made our way down to The Vale for the annual Valefest, a festival organised and held by a team of University of Birmingham students to raise money for their chosen charities (this year was the turn of MacMillan and Trekstock). This year was also Valefest's 10th anniversary!

The last photo is me with Sara, who is part of the acoustic duo Sara and Jack (here's her YouTube, she is fab) and with whom I got to sing a cheeky little group number at last year's UoB Winter Showcase.

My friend Lizzie kindly gave me a plus one ticket for entry with Little Dynamite, who played the MacMillan tent. Little Dynamite are a four piece band made up of students from the University of Birmingham and having been together for less than half a year are already gaining a following. They love to dabble in all sorts of genres and change songs up for covers as well as perform their catchy originals, of which they performed two new ones for the first time on the Valefest stage.

The gold leggings alone should convince you to check out Little Dynamite on Facebook and Twitter! Their first single is also out on iTunes for 79p. #LOVESHONETHROUGH

Food was on top form compared to last year, and I ended up sampling a pad thai after a very lively sales pitch from the stall owner. The noodles were fresh and everything was wonderfully moreish, and washed down with a pint of cider, I was very content!

Other musical highlights, from what I saw, ranged from the wonderfully talented Uptone Girls, an all-girl acapella group, to Wild Sun, a four piece all-male band based in London (who we also got the fortune to hang out with all late afternoon/evening). All in all I had a great day, especially after the sun finally came out towards mid-afternoon. For more information about Valefest check out their website!

P.S. you might have noticed my friend Annabelle with her shaven head in the photos- she did this to raise money for Save the Children a few days ago and has just passed the £2500 mark! If you have any spare change please consider a cheeky sponsor: www.justgiving.com/annabelle-stephenson1
